The role of the unit is to provide community safety, traffic policing, by law implementation and related security services.

Traffic Services

The unit has legislative mandate to provide Traffic Services in terms of Section 156 and Schedule 4 and 5 of the Constitution of South Africa. The objective of the section is to provide safe road usage within the municipality and improving road safety by providing effective driving licence services and Traffic Enforcement by :

• Ensuring roadworthy compliance of motor vehicles
• Increase voluntary compliance of road users
• Quality services (law enforcement, logistics and administration and licensing)
• Reduce Traffic offence rates, crash and fatalities

Law Enforcement
The section is responsible for enforcing the by-laws, clamping down on offences such as illegal parking, illegal dumping and littering, speeding and other offences such as general nuisance.
