The unit is responsible for all the activities and actions required to manage waste from its inception to its final disposal. This includes collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of waste.

The section is also responsible for landfill site, management of solid waste disposal sites as resources, as well as promoting sustainable environmentally sound and cost effective practices through Integrated Waste Management Plan (IWMP)

There is also management and implementation of Clean-up campaigns, Schools and Ward Based Environmental Education Programmes, Stakeholder Management and Events and Outreach Programmes.
